Australia’s 2025 National Packaging Targets are a set of goals and commitments aimed at reducing the environmental impact of packaging waste. These targets were established by the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) in collaboration with government, industry, and community stakeholders. The targets focus on four key areas:
1. Resource Recovery: The goal is to achieve 70% of all packaging being recycled or composted by 2025. This target aims to increase the recycling rates of various packaging materials, such as plastics, paper, glass, and metals.
2. Packaging Design: The target is to make 100% of all packaging reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025. This involves promoting the use of sustainable materials and encouraging packaging design that is environmentally friendly and easy to recycle.
3. Recycled Content: The aim is to incorporate an average of 30% recycled content in packaging by 2025. This target encourages the use of recycled materials in packaging production, reducing the demand for virgin materials and promoting a circular economy.
4. Problematic Packaging: The goal is to phase out problematic and unnecessary single-use packaging items by 2025. This target focuses on reducing the use of packaging that is difficult to recycle or has a significant environmental impact.
These targets are part of a broader effort to transition towards a more sustainable and circular packaging system in Australia. By working towards these goals, Australia aims to minimize packaging waste, conserve resources, and reduce the environmental footprint associated with packaging materials.
Auto Spa Empire has already made changes to all its packaging to meet these standards as of 2024, using reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging.
